Albertans can purchase products directly from British Columbia wineries again. Last January, the province had refused to stock wines from B-C producers that were shipping directly, saying those sales were avoiding provincial taxes and cutting into government revenues. But an agreement was signed last summer, and it went into effect this week. Alberta will get a share of the tax revenue from B-C as compensation. The deal runs for a year, after which its effectiveness will be analyzed.
