Vegreville Vipers To Scout Players At 2024 Western Elite Hockey Showcase

The Vegreville Vipers are once again heading to the Western Elite Hockey Showcase.

The annual event is attended by coaches, general managers, and scouts from Junior ‘A’ and Junior ‘B’ leagues across western Canada and the United States.

Vipers General Manager Bryan Brown says it is one of the Showcases that they always attend and they have gone to it for probably the last four years. He says “It is basically prospects that are looking for places to play, and better quality teams to go to. There is usually between 400 and 500 players that attend those camps, so we always go there and look for the best players that best suit our team.”

Brown says goaltending is one of the holes they are looking to fill. He says they have advanced all three of the netminders that they had this past season to league’s that are more suitable for them. According to Brown, some of the other players on the Vipers have advanced on to college and pro teams so they will have to fill in those gaps as well. He says “After winning a championship like we did, it definitely helped us out because I get emails every day on players that are looking to come to our organization that are what we are looking for in a player. It is very important to have top calibre hockey players to compete at higher levels.”

The Western Elite Hockey Group will be holding its sixth annual Showcase Camp in Edmonton from May 24th through the 26th at the Clareview Rec Centre.
