Surging cases of measles in Canada a concern

Canada’s chief public health officer is concerned about surging cases of measles, both in Canada and around the world.

Doctor Theresa Tam says there have been 227 confirmed cases of the extremely contagious virus across the country since the start of the year, more than in all of 2024.

Tam says most of the cases have been in unvaccinated or under-vaccinated children, as vaccination rates decline.

She says, with Spring Break approaching, it’s important that parents protect their children by making sure their inoculations are up to date.
