Mark Carney set to become Canada’s next Prime Minister

Former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney will become Canada’s next Prime Minister.

Carney overwhelmed his three opponents, winning the Liberal leadership race with almost 86 per cent of the vote.

In his victory speech, Carney took several shots at Donald Trump, saying he’ll keep Canada’s retaliatory tariffs in place until the American president shows us respect as a sovereign nation.

He also lashed out at Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, saying someone who worships at the altar of Donald Trump will kneel before him, not stand up to him.

Carney will meet with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday to discuss the hand-over.

Once he’s officially named Prime Minister, he will then choose a cabinet.

Political observers expect Carney to quickly call a federal election before Parliament resumes on March 24th.
