Residents of Riverview have successfully blocked a proposed tax that would have helped the Alberta government recover $81,000 for new natural gas connections.
After losing their supply when the Windsor Salt plant shut down, eight residents received new connections, but a Local Improvement Tax was proposed to cover costs.
A formal petition met the legal threshold to stop it, forcing County of St. Paul council to defeat the related borrowing bylaw.
Under provincial rules, the tax proposal can’t be revisited for at least a year.
