Opening weekend for the Powerline Baseball League is just a couple days away.
For the Vegreville Blue Jays that means a home date with the Camrose Roadrunners on Saturday, May 11th at the Riverview Ball Diamond.
Stephen Hrabec with the Blue Jays says they have their core of 8 or 9 guys are back for this season. He notes they did add a couple of new faces, some younger guys so they are excited to see what they are going to bring. Hrabec points out it is good to see some youth in their line up but they could always use more. He says “It is nice to see but we would like to get a few more. I know there is quite a few boys playing in minor ball and some have graduated and we’d like to see them come out because, yeah the team is getting older and for some of us it is getting challenging to continue to play with family life and work. We would like to see the team continue. So yeah, if you are out there and you are interested in playing and you have played some serious ball, come out and check it out or you can contact me and we will get you going.”
He says their pitching rotation will be exactly the same as it was in 2023 – they haven’t lost any pitchers and they haven’t gained any.
Hrabec adds, they have the mentality to win in 2024.
Check out the Vegreville Blue Jays PBL home and season opening game this Saturday night at 6:30pm when the Camrose Roadrunners arrive at the Riverview Ball Diamond.
Vegreville earned the top seed heading into the playoffs thanks to a 9-3 record during the 2023 regular season. However, the Blue Jays were unable to muster a postseason win as they were swept in a best of three semi-final by the Armena Royals.
The Rosalind Athletics are the defending Powerline Baseball League champions. The A’s won the title in the six team league by sweeping Armena in the 2023 best of three PBL championship series.
