Another season of Powerline Baseball League action kicked off on Saturday and the Vegreville Blue Jays started the new year in style. Veteran ace Kyle Muzechka twirled a solid five shutout innings, hitting double-digits in strikeouts while slugging first baseman Zak Lang went 3-for-5, including a moon-shot three-run homerun in a 10-0 mercy-rule victory over the visiting Camrose Roadrunners. Lang says it was good to get back to action and find some early success at the plate.
The team will once again rely heavily on Muzechka when it comes to pitching in big spots. The left-hander says it was great to start the season on a winning note and despite some shakiness early, it was great to be back.
The Blue Jays are coming off a 9-3 season last year that saw them fall to Armena in a semi-final upset. They’ll have a chance for some revenge on Thursday when they visit the Royals at Anniversary Park. Their next home game will be Tuesday, May 21st when they welcome the Tofield Braves to town.
