The Vegreville Blue Jays are back in action in the Powerline Baseball League tonight. The Birds make the trip to Armena for their first road game of the year against the Royals. Armena eliminated the Jays in last year’s semi-final series, earning the upset with a two-game series sweep. The two teams are no strangers to each other, having met in the playoffs for the last five seasons. Vegreville enters tonight’s game with a 1-0 record after a 10-0 victory over Camrose to start the year. Zak Lang led the way for the Birds in that contest, picking up his first homerun of the season. The slugging first baseman says it was nice to get off to a good start.
Veteran ace Kyle Muzechka picked up the win on the hill to start the new year. The left-hander says they’ve always been a consistently good team defensively, they just need to stay effective offensively to be one of the league’s top teams again.
The Blue Jays and Royals get underway at 7:00 pm at Anniversary Park in Armena. The next home action for the Birds will be on Tuesday, May 21st, when they play host to the Tofield Braves.
