Enforcement efforts by RCMP in Strathcona County over the Victoria Day long weekend have resulted in 500 tickets issued and 152 warnings handed out.
According to police, numerous check stops were set up to catch drivers who may be putting themselves and others at risk.
Strathcona County RCMP and Strathcona County Enforcement Services issued six immediate roadside sanctions in just over an hour and a half on Saturday, May 18th on 17th Street in Sherwood Park.
Superintendent Dale Kendall with the Strathcona County RCMP says “We want to remind all drivers that speeding and impaired driving will not be tolerated in Strathcona County. Check stops will continue to be a crucial tool in our efforts to keep our community safe.”
Over the May long weekend, police on Highway 216 clocked some drivers in at 165 and 150 kilometers an hour.
Mounties say these reckless speeds pose a serious danger to everyone on the road and show the importance of check stops in keeping roadways in the province safe.
