The Edmonton Oilers are in the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in 18 years and they will be trying to win the franchise’s sixth National Hockey League championship when their best of seven series with the Panthers gets underway tomorrow in Sunrise, Florida.
Vegreville Vipers General Manager Bryan Brown thinks it is fantastic to see a Canadian team in the Stanley Cup Final and it is extra special for this province.
Brown says just driving down the streets of Vegreville you see plenty of support including Oilers flags hanging on houses. He says “A couple of our neighbours and ourselves we have the lights that are around our house and they are in Oilers colours. Then you see some vehicles that are driving by with Oilers flags in them, so it’s great to see. Also Kyle Brodziak he is a Vegreville resident, or was, and he played and he’s still part of the alumni.”
Brown shares his prediction for which team will win the Stanley Cup for the 2023-2024 season. He says “I think it going to go six. Not that I want to see it go six, but I’m an Oilers fan and hopefully they pull it off. Play their style of hockey and become champions for the first time in years, it’d be awesome.”
Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final is in Florida tomorrow at 6pm mountain time, and the Panthers will also host Game 2 on Monday night.
The best of seven series for hockey’s Holy Grail will then shift to Rogers Place in Edmonton for Game 3 next Thursday, and Game 4 on Saturday, June 15th.
