Athabasca And Boyle RCMP Reporting Recent Uptick In Break-Ins To Properties And Businesses

Athabasca and Boyle RCMP are reporting several break-ins to properties and businesses in both detachment areas in the past week.

As a result, RCMP are reminding the public to secure their properties.

Mounties say the recent properties reporting break-ins include the Boyle Arena/Curling Rink, surrounding businesses, and a building owned by the Village of Boyle. Police point out that with the return of seasonal residents to the area, it is expected that opportunistic criminals may be on the lookout for unsecured property.

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) tips from the RCMP include keeping clear sight lines to yards, garages, and entry points so criminals have no where to hide and making sure trees and bushes aren’t overgrown and thus creating cover for a potential thief.

According to Athabasca and Boyle RCMP, overall, crimes trends for 2024 – compared to the same time period last year – are similar and, in some cases, showing signs of decreasing despite this recent run of break-in incidents.

If you spot any criminal or suspicious activities, please contact your local RCMP Detachment, or CRIMESTOPPERS.
