The Viking Beaver Family and Community Support Services will be hosting a Mental Health First Aid Course aimed at helping seniors this July. Director for the Viking Beaver FCSS Dawn Chrystian says that the course is open seniors, someone who may know a senior, or caregivers.
Chrystian adds that the likelihood of experiencing mental health issues in a given year tends to increase as one ages, due to a number of reasons such as financial hardship, isolation, and depression.
The course is designed to aid older adults and their families, friends, caregivers, and communities to promote mental health, prevent mental illness, and intervene early when problems first emerge.
The Mental Health First Aid Course for seniors will take place July 11th and 12th from 9am to 3pm at the Viking Beaver FCSS Boardroom in Viking. While there is no fee to attend the event, pre-registration is required. For more information or to register for this course, please contact the Viking Beaver FCSS at 780-336-4024.
