RCMP Remind Motorists To Plan Ahead, Enjoy The Canada Day Weekend Responsibly

Mounties in Alberta are reminding everyone to enjoy the long weekend responsibly.

According to a press release, a total of 117 impaired drivers were removed from the roads by Alberta RCMP during the Canada Day long weekend in 2023.

Data provided by police also notes that during the July long weekend last year, 76 individuals were injured in motor vehicle collisions in Alberta RCMP jurisdictions and there were four fatalities.

Police point out the fact that impaired driving is dangerous and criminal.

Sergeant Darrin Turnbull with Alberta RCMP Traffic says with a summer long weekend comes the opportunity to spend time enjoying off-highway vehicles while camping or boating on the lake. He adds, in any case, you should never operate a motorized vehicle if you have been drinking or using cannabis. If you suspect someone is driving impaired, Turnbull encourages members of the public to call 911.

Alberta RCMP remind everyone to plan ahead and have a safe ride home, call a taxi or rideshare service, use a designated driver, or stay the night.
