Saturday, July 20th marks National Parks Day across Canada. First recognized in 1990, Parks Day is a celebration of the natural beauty that Canada’s parks have to offer. To mark the occasion, Alberta Parks will be hosting events and activities across the province to showcase the many ways Albertans make use of and enjoy Alberta’s provincial parks. The day is also meant to highlight the role that parks play in protecting ecosystems, habitat, and species-at-risk.
With almost over 500 provincial parks across Alberta, over 27,600 square kilometres of the province has been selected as a park or protected area, ranging from conservation-focused to recreation-focused parks.
Alberta Parks encourages those interested to celebrate Parks Day in the park of their choice and enjoy the province’s diverse and unique landscapes.
