The Lifesaving Society designates the third week in July as National Drowning Prevention Week. The goal of the week is to promote awareness of the drowning prevention problem in Canada and the need for individuals, communities, organizations, and the government to take action in an effort to save lives. This year’s Prevention Week will take place July 21st to 27th, with July 25th being declared World Drowning Prevention Day. Aquatic Instructor with the Town of Vegreville Elise Wall says this week continues to be an important event in bringing awareness about drowning prevention to members of the community.
Wall adds that each day of the week will highlight a different topic relating to drowning prevention, from fatal drowning to backyard pool and open water safety, to supervising children.
