The City of Cold Lake is now in the process of recovery after a significant cyber attack that affected its online systems city-wide on Tuesday, July 23rd. The City has not released any details about how the attack happened at this time, but CAO Kevin Nagoya says that their IT team has determined that personal data and sensitive information had not been compromised during the attack.
According to an update posted to the City of Cold Lake’s Facebook page, Nagoya has said that the main priority for the City is to get everything up and running once again as quickly as possible in order to continue providing programs and services to its citizens.
Progress has been made in restoring some essential services. Phone lines remain down, but several payment systems are now back online and can accept credit card or debit payments. Residents are encouraged to bring an electronic or paper copy of any bills that are needing to be paid, as having the account number easily accessible facilitates the process.
Nagoya also mentions in the online update that he is thankful for the public’s continued patience during this difficult time, and that it will be some time before everything is completely restored.
