The federal and Alberta governments are announcing a joint investment of more than $57 million over five years in the wake of the devastation to Jasper National Park and the Town of Jasper.
The August 1 announcement indicates the dollars will come from the Government of Canada’s Fighting and Managing Wildfires in a Changing Climate Program – Equipment Fund.
The money will support renewed efforts by the province to obtain and upgrade wildland firefighting equipment and hire and train personnel.
The equipment fund was rolled out in 2022, and Alberta has bought aircraft parts, general wildfire equipment like pumps and hoses, telecommunications equipment such as radios and transmitters, and better predictive services, states Natural Resources Canada in a news release.
