The Town of Vegreville Fire Services announced some changes to structure fire billing last month. The changes include invoicing a property owner’s insurance provider to cover the costs of fire response expenses. Fire Chief Gary Faas says it’s crucial that property owners contact their insurance provider to ensure that they have coverage for fire suppression costs, as inadequate coverage may mean that the owner themselves would receive the bill.
Faas goes on to say that while property taxes cover the costs of a number of expenses for the fire department, fire response costs remain an issue, leading to the decision for the changes.
