Vegreville Town Council Proposes Updated Utilities Billing Bylaw

During Monday’s Vegreville Town Council meeting, an updated Utilities Billing Bylaw was discussed. Proposed changes will include charging fixed fees on not only properties with a water meter, but will be amended to also include vacant lands that are not currently using water and sewer infrastructure, but are still subject to surface water drainage and are utilizing the storm system. Fixed fees include items such as Flood Mitigation or Storm Drainage Fees, Residential Garbage Fees, and Infrastructure Replacement Fees.

Mayor Tim MacPhee says that these proposed changes to utilities billing are being put in place to ensure that all property owners in Vegreville are paying their fair share for the maintenance and upkeep of the Town and its properties.

MacPhee adds that this change is long overdue and while it may not affect very many properties throughout Town, he says it is vital that all property owners are contributing to the preservation of Vegreville.

The proposed changes to the Utilities Billing Water Bylaw passed the first reading with second and third readings scheduled to take place at the next council meeting on September 9th, 2024. If the proposed changes to the bylaw are approved through Council, the changes will be slated to take place in January of 2025.
