Canada Set For Sitting Volleyball Semi-Final

A semi-final showdown with China looms for the Canadian women’s sitting volleyball team at the Paralympics in Paris. The squad, which features Vegreville’s own Sarah Melenka, went 2-1 in the round robin to earn their spot in the semis. After a win over Slovenia in the opener, the Canadians fell to their rivals from Brazil. On Monday, they wrapped up round robin play with an emphatic three sets to none victory over Rwanda. Melenka contributed ten points in the winning effort. Their semi-final will see them face a Chinese squad that went 3-0 in the round robin, including a dominant straight sets victory over the host French team on Tuesday. The two teams lock horns Thursday at noon. The other semi-final sees Brazil face Team USA.
