Government Of Alberta Moves Forward With New Legislation Regarding Sex Ed Classes In Schools

The provincial government says it will move ahead with legislation this fall that will require parents to opt-in to classes about sex education for their children.

The current practice is to allow parents to opt their kids out of such classes if they don’t want them to participate.

Any resources or presentations would also need to be pre-approved by the education ministry.

Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides says parents, school boards, and teachers are being consulted.

Education officials say the new system will not give parents any additional control, and will simply add to red tape for school boards.
