China is launching an anti-dumping probe into imports of Canada’s canola or rapeseed.
The move comes as trade tensions are heating up after Canada imposed a 100 per cent tariff on China’s EVs and 25 per cent on steel and aluminum.
China imports 90 per cent of its rapeseed from Canada. That’s some 5 million tonnes of product with revenues of about $5 billion CDN last year.
Another possible fallout could see Canada’s canola shipments to China halted just as farmers are harvesting in their fields.
Beijing also plans to file a complaint with the World Trade Organization over the EV tariffs.
