An investigation into a 2021 officer-involved shooting near Ardmore has cleared the officer of any wrongdoing. An ASIRT report released on September 6th found the officer’s response—firing a single shot—was “proportionate, necessary, and reasonable.” The incident occurred on January 22nd, 2021, when RCMP officers confronted a stolen truck on private property. The driver accelerated towards the officer, prompting the shot. The report concluded that the officers acted lawfully and with appropriate caution. It was also noted that the passenger in the truck refused to cooperate with investigators.
