New fire restrictions have been set in place by both the Town of Smoky Lake and the Beaver Emergency Services Commission, which includes the Beaver County area and the towns of Tofield, Ryley, Holden, Bruce, Viking, and Kinsella. These fire restrictions prohibit all open air burning and all fire permits are now suspended with no new permits being issued while the restrictions are in effect.
Campfires may be permitted in approved receptacles provided they are continuously attended and have an adequate water supply available to extinguish the fire if needed. The use of fireworks is prohibited during a fire restriction.
The BESC asks that all previously permitted fires be extinguished immediately and to check recently burned brush piles to ensure they have been properly doused.
Everyone is urged to use extreme caution when working or driving in grassy areas, be mindful of hot exhaust and keep vehicles clean and free of debris as this can fall off and cause fires.
These fire restrictions will remain in effect until further notice.
