Laser Pointer And Drone Incidents On The Rise, Affecting Aircrafts

Alberta’s air ambulance service is facing a sharp rise in drone and laser pointer incidents, with a 1,000% increase since 2020. So far in 2024, there have been five incidents. Laser strikes can temporarily blind pilots, while drones pose a collision risk. Drone operators must follow strict regulations, including keeping drones in sight and away from airports. Meanwhile, Parks Canada warns visitors to stop flying drones near wildfires in Jasper National Park, where unauthorized drone use has grounded firefighting aircraft and resulted in fines up to $25,000.
