The 2024 Canadian American Junior Hockey League postseason gets underway this evening. Two best-of-three semi-final series get underway, including the Vegreville Vipers matching up against the Cold Lake Aeros. These two teams met up 14 times during the regular season with the Snakes holding a 5-8-1 record during the series. The Vipers enter the playoffs as the league’s hottest team, winning their last seven straight. They also come in with plenty of league hardware, taking home four of the six league year-end awards. Bence Pal was named Top Goaltender while backup netminder Andrej Zajaros won Rookie of the Year. Captain Braden Van De Kraats was named the league’s Top Defenceman while Carson Pewarchuk took home MVP honours after a record-setting season that saw him set new league marks for goals, assists and points in a season. Games one and two will take place Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 pm in Cold Lake. If necessary, the decisive game three will take place on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm in Vegreville. If you can’t make it out to the rink for that game three, you can still catch it right here on Country 106.5.
