The Alberta government is giving nearly $150 million to help the town of Jasper recover after a wildfire destroyed a third of the community in July.
While residents can’t access the funds directly, the money will help cover staff overtime, emergency food and shelter, and other expenses.
Emergency Services Minister Mike Ellis says the funding will speed up recovery, and Jasper Mayor Richard Ireland is grateful for the support.
The money comes from Alberta’s Disaster Recovery Program, which has also helped Fort McMurray and areas hit by flooding last year.
