Number of Albertans installing solar panels skyrockets

The number of Albertans installing home solar panels has skyrocketed, thanks to lower costs and grant programs. While some enjoy saving on their energy bills, others hope to generate extra income by sending power back to the grid. Greg Sauer of SkyFire Energy says many customers ask if they can produce more energy than they use, but Alberta’s rules limit solar systems to offsetting about 105% of a home’s energy needs. While larger systems are tempting, Alberta’s grid isn’t designed to handle too much power coming from homes, creating limitations for expansion.
