Wildfire season begins in Alberta; fire departments urge caution

Alberta’s 2025 wildfire season has begun, and fire departments in Bonnyville, Lac La Biche, and St. Paul are urging residents to take precautions.

Fire officials recommend clearing debris, storing firewood away from buildings, and following FireSmart guidelines to reduce wildfire risk. 

Lac La Biche offers free home assessments and wood chipping services, while Bonnyville requires burn permits for controlled fires. Fire crews are also preparing equipment and training for the season. 

Officials remind residents to follow fire bans and restrictions to help prevent wildfires.
