The Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters says a record number of people were turned away from shelters in our province last year.
A report from the council says 31-thousand people were unable to access safe accommodations…..41 per cent of them children.
A report from the Council says current facilities can only cope with 20 per cent of those who need shelter.
It notes that the shortage of affordable housing is playing a major role, since women are staying in shelters longer than usual because there’s nowhere else they can go.
