A federal escapee has been arrested by Edmonton Police Service and Alberta RCMP members.
According to police, the EPS Targeted Response to Auto Theft Prevention team located a suspicious Mazda sedan leaving the area where a stolen truck was last seen in Beaver County at about 11:55am on Thursday, July 4th.
The vehicle fled the area after an initial traffic stop was attempted and RCMP from Tofield, Fort Saskatchewan, and Strathcona County were dispatched.
Mounties say EPS Air 1, and a tire deflation device were utilized and the lone suspect fled on foot, attempted to steal a vehicle from a local farm yard but was eventually arrested.
A 31 year old federal prisoner, Kalum Christian Auger, who escaped from the Stan Daniels Healing Centre in June faces charges including flight from a peace officer, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a controlled substance, and three counts of illegal possession of government documents.
He has been remanded into custody and is set to appear in court in Vegreville on July 15th.
The Acting Commander of the Tofield RCMP Detachment says “the effective coordination of assets between the RCMP Detachments as well as Edmonton Police Service was instrumental in effectively and safely arresting this wanted escapee.”
Corporal Kenneth Petruik adds, “we are pleased to have this offender who was committing crime in our area back in jail.”
