Vista Radio stations, Country 106.5, are joining radio stations across the province to support those impacted by the Jasper wildfire through the Alberta Day of Caring for Jasper.
The province-wide initiative will be on Wednesday, July 31st and donations made to the Canadian Red Cross will help provide evacuees with humanitarian aid, including financial assistance and relief supplies. On Sunday, the governments of Canada and Alberta announced they will match every dollar donated to the Canadian Red Cross 2024 Alberta Fires Appeal, making $1 worth $3 in support for those affected.
“Donations to the Canadian Red Cross will be used for assisting those impacted in Jasper and other affected areas in Alberta with immediate and ongoing relief including financial assistance, support to evacuees and the communities hosting them, recovery and resilience efforts in response to the wildfires, as well as supporting community preparedness and risk reduction for future all-hazard disaster events within Alberta,” reads a statement from the Canadian Red Cross.
Along with being able to donate online, bottle depots in Alberta are accepting empty bottles and cans, with the money raised going directly to help Wednesday’s initiative. Those dropping off bottles just have to let a staff member know they are for Jasper.
“Your compassion will help provide vital humanitarian assistance to people in Alberta who have been impacted by wildfires,” the Canadian Red Cross says.
Both the federal and provincial governments will be matching donations for 30 days, retroactively from July 25.
Last week, the wildfire forced at least 10,000 people to evacuate the Jasper townsite. As of late July 26, 358 structures were confirmed to have been destroyed.
