Federal climate scientists are warning we can expect a longer-than-usual wildfire season, especially in the west…..and an increasing number of stronger storms on the east coast.
Their latest assessment is predicting an above-average hurricane season, with 17 to 24 named storms expected to hit the Atlantic provinces and Quebec by the end of the year. And the current wildfire season, which usually concludes by the end of August, could last well into September, most notably in B-C, Alberta, and parts of Saskatchewan.
Some 700 firefighters from six different countries are currently helping on the fire lines…..more than 600 of them in Alberta.
There are currently 474 wildfires burning across the country, with 167 of them out of control.
