Starting next year, Alberta will expand its electronics recycling program to include over 500 new items, such as cell phones, power tools, and microwaves. This means more electronic waste can be kept out of landfills. However, consumers might notice a small environmental fee, ranging from 40 cents to a dollar, when purchasing newly designated electronic products. The province is also beginning to develop recycling programs for solar panels, electric vehicle batteries, and wind turbine components.Â
