Premier Danielle Smith Announces New Legislation Regarding Schools This Fall

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has announced that her government will introduce new legislation on pronouns in schools this fall. The proposed policy would require schools to notify parents if students aged 15 and under wish to change their names or pronouns. This comes ahead of the September school year, with the full suite of policies, including restrictions on trans youth health care and sports participation, set to be discussed in the October legislature session. LGBTQ+ groups have indicated plans to challenge these policies in court.
