Calgary Man Survives Grizzly Bear Attack

A Calgary man attacked by a grizzly bear in Madden earlier this month is recovering and sharing his story. Carmelo Silvestro was on a hunting trip on September 1 when he encountered a mother grizzly and her cubs. Despite being pinned down and injured, he managed to use bear spray, which Alberta Fish and Wildlife believes helped prevent more severe injuries. Silvestro, who suffered a shattered scapula and broken ribs, is recovering at Foothills Hospital. The bear involved is the same one linked to a fatal attack in 2021. Authorities are still searching for the bear and urge anyone with sightings to report them.
