New Waste-To-Energy Facility Could Make Its Way To The Lakeland Region

A new waste-to-energy facility could be coming to the Lakeland region in Alberta. This facility, funded by the provincial government, would turn landfill waste into electricity while capturing carbon emissions. It’s expected to be ready by 2027 and could store up to 185,000 tons of carbon dioxide each year. Lac La Biche county’s deputy mayor, John Mondal, supports the idea but says a full feasibility study is needed before moving forward. The Alberta government has set aside $2.8 million for the project’s design, with additional funding from a private company.
