The president of the Alberta Medical Association says she’s concerned our province’s health care system is on the verge of collapse.
Doctor Shelley Duggan says the delay in instituting a new payment model is putting lives at risk.
The province has been promising a new system for paying doctors, getting away from the fee-for-service model, since last year.
Its latest pledge was to unveil the program this month, in an effort to boost the number of family physicians.
The Association notes the government’s budget for physician services hasn’t kept pace with the growth in population over the last five years.
