Eight teams remain in the Western Hockey League playoffs and the conference semifinals began over the weekend.
The Eastern Conference’s top seed – the Blades – took the first two games of their best of seven clash with the Red Deer Rebels in Saskatoon. The Blades won Game 1 by the score of 4-1 on Friday, and then they outlasted the Rebels 2-1 in overtime in Game 2 on Sunday.
In Moose Jaw, the Warriors will host Game 1 this evening versus the Swift Current Broncos. 19 year old forward Jagger Firkus from Irma had 2 goals and 7 points to help the Warriors sweep the Brandon Wheat Kings in the opening round of the playoffs.
Also tonight, the Western Conference’s top seed – the Cougars – are at home in Prince George for Game 1 against the fifth seeded Kelowna Rockets.
And the Everett Silvertips host the Portland Winterhawks for Game 1 of their series.
